This course has given me the confidence to believe in myself and grow as a designer. The future is bright! It’s armed me with the tools to create and explore my own style and vision. It’s opened my mind to the world of opportunities within surface pattern design.

For me the colour week was very important within the course and allowed me to see how Pantones are used within industry standards. The course developed my design skills but supported me with great technical and business advice and I am so thrilled to be looking forward to modules two and three next year and build on such a solid foundation!

The course has been fab!  I have had lots of fun.  For me that’s   the best thing.  being free and having fun.  Taking risks and trying out new ways to do stuff.  I was happy to start with mark making and reinventing ways to draw.  It sparks creativity and also makes you see what’s around you much more clearly. or at least differently.   It’s a ‘tap on the shoulder’ that’s says….’Hey, look at this.’  and it makes you stop and notice.

The progression of the course ran smoothly moving on to understanding motif and repeat in analogue, in a hands on way that wasn’t threatening so moving to digital was seamless and a lot less intimidating.

I know I have still got lots left to learn but the prospect is exciting and I now feel equipped to carry on improving on the skills I have learnt so far, while waiting to start the next module.

The most powerful element of the course for me was the actual empowerment it gave me. This course made me sift through the ruins of my art bins and boxes and dig out actual supplies and gave me the license to make a mess and enter in the bliss of actually creating. Signing up and following through with the course has made me believe that this might be an achievable dream. Doing it was actually better than just thinking about it and hoping. Thank you for this.

Once again, thank you for a wonderful course. It helped me realise that there is truly a place for everyone out there. I’ve heard that before, but I don’t think I really believed it until now. I was always scared to show my work in public and the fear of not being good enough was the biggest reason why I didn’t do that. This course helped me boost my confidence and improve my personal style, which I became proud of. It also helped me figure out in which direction I want to be going as an artist.

The ABSPD Module 1 course has fulfilled my dream of getting into the field of design. It has given me the confidence to explore into surface pattern designing which is a passion I developed in the recent past. The most powerful element of this course for me was developing my own unique style.

The most powerful part of ABSPD module1 has been the opportunity to learn, experiment and examine what my style is and what I love most about surface pattern. With the support of the Facebook group I have gained the confidence to share my work.

This course is just the start of my journey but I am already feeling more confident about my future as a designer.

The most exciting thing about this course for me was the step-by-step process to identify one’s unique design style. Between this and the invaluable community support, my confidence has skyrocketed and I am now 100% certain that I will be able to create a career from my love of Surface Pattern Design.

I’ve been blown away by how much content has been provided in the course, which has given me an excellent foundation to build my own portfolio of work. It’s really helped me to get back to the routes of creating artwork as well as providing a structure to seeking inspiration for new projects. I feel so much more confident in my own work and I don’t feel so afraid to share it with others!

For my powerful elements for this course was to know and learn how to simplify my images in my mind or things around me I want to turn into design. Mostly flowers, trees or animals were difficult motif for me to make into design but now I could manage them better to make a design pattern. I think that made my design world widen!

I enjoyed the course very much and it was a firework of inspiration for me.

I think one of the most important things you said was that you cannot do anything “wrong”.  Yes, there is e.g. the colour wheel and hundreds of theories about colour, but just try something new if you want to.

You made so many concrete suggestions what one can try in everyday life. Things that are easy to do for everyone, but which inspire you so much and get you think about so many things.

The exercises trained me to find my creative self and express it in completed designs. The camaraderie of the group is impossible to beat!

ABSPD Module 1 has been incredible course to participate in for many reasons.  But I have to say the biggest impact was how the program fit every skill level – I believe everyone took away what they needed from this course and many are looking forward to the next session.

I have loved this course from start to finish.  It has helped me develop both my design style and my technical ability and I am amazed at my progress in just five weeks.
