We are very excited to bring you a series of Surtex previews for the 2014 show taking place on May 18 – 20, 2014 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York. Surtex is the only show in North America solely devoted to selling and licensing original art and design for all types of products.

We are extremely proud of many of “The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design” e-course students and are pleased to be celebrating their success with them as they prepare for the show.

How are you preparing for Surtex?

I would never have thought I would be exhibiting at the 2014 Surtex show after just graduating from the three modules of ABSPD this past November.  What made it possible for me to exhibit so soon was joining the Cultivate Art Collective group, formed by Rachelle Panagarry.

Ten of us will exhibit in a double booth (214 + 216) which made it affordable to participate this year.  I have been gathering resources from Tara Reed, Jessica Swift, Kristian Howell and joined the Facebook group, Surtex (Before and After) where experienced exhibitors and newbies share information.  I’m working as hard as I can nights and weekends to get designs and collections pulled together, marketing materials and my portfolio designed and printed.

I have high hopes for positive feedback from my design offerings and I’m keeping my expectations low when it comes to generating my first licensing contract.  There is still so much to learn and I’m totally grateful for the opportunity now to get my feet wet as part of a larger group my first time exhibiting.
