Pattern design showcase part 7 – Module 1 (March 2014 class)

We are really pleased to showcase the beautiful work from our very talented Module 1 students of ‘The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design’ who took the course in March 2014. Today is Part 7 of our 9 part series of some our fantastic students & the work they have created over the 5 weeks in class.

61. Brenda Pelletier - Poppylicious

“Life’s serendipity led me to your course. It was the balm my soul needed. To be honest there aren’t enough words to adequately express what the course did for me. Firstly, after the tragedy of losing my husband it gave me a whole lease on life again. Finding the designer in me was amazing therapy. It helped me dig really deep, opened my eyes to the design world and find my “inner designer ” Not to mention how much the computer workshops helped pull all the theory and lessons together to come out with developed motifs and patterns. Thank you, thank you for following your souls’ path and helping others to do the same!”- Brenda Pelletier

62. Myriam Kozik - Through The Frame

“The hardest thing for me was how to go from inspiration to a motif (the building block of a design) and as if you had read my mind, that was the first thing being taught. The Facebook’s private community was amazing because as you are going through a journey, it’s so important to know that you are no alone on this.”- Myriam Kozik

63. Emm aCochrane - Cherry Blossom Burst

“This course has given me the confidence and inspiration to change my career path. That really is life changing. I have started using my sketchbook again after ten years and it is an absolute joy. I also go to sleep thinking about patterns!
Thanks all for such a great course and looking forward to module 2!” – Emma Cochrane

64. Claire Wilson - Floral Burst

“This course has really helped to open my eyes and get me thinking in new ways – I can’t go anywhere without seeing pattern now! I’ve started to learn what I like and what drives me as a designer, as well as beginning to discover what my signature style is – I can’t wait for the next module to begin!” – Claire Wilson

65. Nicola Phipard-Shears - Secret Garden

“Studying this course has opened up a whole world of new possibilities for me at a time when I needed it the most. I now see pattern and colour EVERYWHERE and want to use my new skills not just in a new career path but in my home and my own style too.” – Nicola Phiphard-Shears

66. Brigitte de Villiers - Prickly Sweet

“Without a doubt the most powerful element of the course was that it forced me to pick up a pen(cil) and draw freehand. Learning how to incorporate hand-drawn elements and textures into my designs has been profoundly empowering, bringing a whole new dimension and depth to my work that never seemed attainable before. Sharing the journey with an amazing group of supportive and encouraging classmates was the cherry on top of a delicacy I wished would never end.” – Brigitte de Villiers

67. Anne Bomio - circles and squares

“The course has helped me look at my work with different eyes, I am now much more exigent with myself and I know I still have a lot to learn!
Thanks a lot, see you in Module 2” – Anne Bomio

68. Jo England - Charlie's Pesto

“All my life I have told myself that I can’t draw. This course has empowered me to discover my own style, change my beliefs and realise my potential.
There is one encouraging quote that has stuck with me through this course… ‘stop dreaming, start doing’ and these words have made me just get on with it, and try” – Jo England

69. Giuditta Mello - some dogs like it hot

“I think the most powerful elements of this course is the possibility to be part of a community, and this helps me, every day, feel less alone, strongest, inspired, with an endless fabulous creative journey in front of me!” – Giuditta Mello

70. Natalie Hughes - Purple Harmony

“Taking the ABSPD course (Module 1) was a great turning point for me in my life.  My internal creative thoughts and ideas have been rewired in an incredible and rewarding way – Thank you!” – Natalie Hughes

71. Leslie Dresdner_Cupcake Party

“I’ve learned so much from this course, it’s difficult to choose highlights. Rachael is a great teacher! I learned that inspiration can be found all around us and in some of the most unlikely places. The mixture of creative exercises, technical workshops and exploration of new techniques pushed me out of my comfort zone and has made me a better designer. I’m looking forward to future modules.” – Leslie Dresdner
