We are so excited to introduce part 1 of our 4-part showcase of this beautiful and amazing work from our very talented students from The Ultimate Portfolio Builder of The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design who took the course in May 2015. Here are some of our talented students and the work they have created in class.

“Feedback was the most powerful aspect of the UPB course. Observing the individual work reviews by Rachael, Khristian, and Janine and hearing how others could improve their work helped me improve the quality and depth of my surface pattern designs, and then hearing specifically about my work helped me know where to focus my energies.” – Adriana Hernandez | Website | Germany & USA

“The most powerful element of the MIID Design School was gaining the confidence to try out lots of different subject matter and moving at a face pace with the experiments, diving in and trying out the different subject matters was truly liberating. It has been an absolute joy to lose all these work inhibitions. Sharing and showing the work in a group setting has been the best thing of all. Such an amazing, supportive design community online under the watchful eye and guidance of Rachael. The master classes were also super helpful and the feedback sessions on our work submissions was the highlight of the course for me. Thanks you so much for this course, it has been such great value for money also, highly recommended by me!”– Adrienne Kerr | Website

“The Portfolio Builder course was beyond terrific and gave me the confidence I needed as a print designer. The biggest take away was how it helped me narrow down and identify the markets and consumers that best suit me”.

“The design exercises have been very powerful in allowing me to tackle subject matter out of my comfort zone, and to push boundaries with regards to my colour usage, too. This has really allowed my personal style to develop further and given me lots of confidence to follow my own creative direction”. Charlotte Brown | UK | Website

“Most powerful element of the course – the reviews. Khristian A Howell highlighted things that I needed to work on which is already steering me in new directions and helping me grow as a surface pattern designer. She also highlighted things that I didn’t know I was doing right already which was reassuring and has kept me on track too! This will most certainly help with the other powerful element of live briefs, which is an opportunity that no other course I have done in the design industry has offered. The sheer volume of information you are given throughout the course is staggering and I cannot believe the work and effort that has gone into making this all so easily and readily available for us. The community has been so inspiring and encouraging”.

“The course has helped me to push myself and actually get off the sofa and do something about what I always wanted to do. Everything is so much clearer now for the future”.

– Egle Petrauskaite | UK | Website

“It is really difficult to single out one specific element as I have learnt so much over the course but I will say that I found the student reviews extremely useful: to have that input really encouraged me and give me a true perspective of my work”.
