At the New Designers exhibition last week, we had the pleasure in meeting The Art & Business of Surface Pattern Design alumni Annabel Tempest.
Annabel is one of those glorious people who opens their heart and life to you, no strings attached. She tells it how it is (in a lovely way!), is always willing to help you out (and anyone she meets for that matter!), always has a smile on her face, is full of character and is super artistic. She is a joy to be around.
Annabel lives quite near to me, and as we chatted at New Designers she invited me along to her friend’s art exhibition at The Alma Tavern, Clifton, Bristol.
It was opening night last night and I had the pleasure in attending. Annabel is a social butterfly and kindly introduced me to a number of people, which I was incredibly grateful for. The exhibition was run by Lucie Sheridan and Anna Marrow, two friends with a love of illustration and screen printing.
It was lovely meeting Lucie and Anna and admire their beautiful work.

Lucie is an illustrator who specialises in screen printing. Based in Bristol, she produces her work alongside twenty multi-disciplined artists at Centrespace studio and gallery. Over the past 14 years Lucie’s work has been commissioned by clients such as the Guardian, The Sunday Times, Penguin Books, Conran Designs, Heals and Habitat.

Anna has been working as a printmaker, illustrator and image-maker for 20 years. She studied Fine Art in Bristol and then Communication Design at Central Saint Martins, specialising in illustration. She now draws at home and makes prints at Spike Print Studio, Bristol, working with household paints, biros, fine liners, pencil crayons and screen print.
Anna makes surprising, sometimes humorous or alarming images by combining mundane objects and environments with exotic creatures and characters. Pin pointing a specific moment in time, she is often often drawn to objects from her childhood such as 70’s televisions, radios and cars which all feature heavily in her work, as do urban and suburban landscapes.

There was a really lovely, informal atmosphere – and the free glass of wine was a bonus (thank you!).
The exhibition will run until August 2, 2016 so if you’re around the Clifton / Bristol area, go and check it out!
