Competition for UK 6th form, college and university students

We are so excited to have partnered with wide format printer manufacturer Roland DG for a competition aimed at 6th form, college and university art, fashion and design students in the UK.

The competition officially launched whilst the team were exhibiting at New Designers in London last month which was well received by students visiting and exhibiting at the show.

Unleash your Creativity with Roland DG’s XT Competition for UK Fashion and Design Students

Roland DG UK, the creators of the Texart series of dye-sublimation transfer printers for sportswear and fashion, have announced a textile design competition in collaboration with internationally-acclaimed surface pattern designer and illustrator, Rachael Taylor and Make it in Design. The competition will focus on the production of repeating patterns for use in fashion and interior décor settings.

With a long history of print production, Roland DG has taken their expertise into the production of textile fabrics with the launch of the Texart XT-640 professional dye-sublimation transfer printer, taking the Roland DG textile line up to the next level. The XT Competition is designed to educate the next generation of graphic and fashion designers on dye-sublimation transfer techniques which can be used to take their work from design to production.

Attendees will be invited to produce a repeating pattern that will then be brought to life on the Texart XT-640, and sewn into a fashion dress to be displayed at Roland DG trade shows as well as Creative Centres across Europe. The fashion dress will be manufactured and produced by R A Smart who have long turned Rachael Taylor’s creativity into reality. Along with being a Roland DG Authorised Dealer for the Texart range of textile products, R A Smart have worked closely with many educational establishments. The final design will be distributed to Roland DG’s various European Creative Centres in the UK, Spain, Belgium, Denmark and Italy in addition to the lucky winner.

World-famous surface pattern designer and illustrator Rachael Taylor, co-founder of Make it in Design, will be judging the winning pattern, and has advised that “What makes a striking and winning design for me is an innovative approach that injects a unique style, personality, creative flair and confident use of colour”. As well as the winner’s pattern being physically produced, the top three competition entrants will win the following;

1st place winner:

  • Modules 1 – 3 from The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design
  • FREE place on all 3 tracks at Winter School starting January 2017.

2nd place prize:

  • Modules 1 & 2 course place from The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design
  • FREE place on 2 tracks of their choice at Winter School starting January 2017.

3rd place prize:

  • Module 1 course place from The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design
  • FREE place on a track of their choice at Winter School starting January 2017.
