Whether you have a digital or physical portfolio these 5 creative know how’s will add power to your portfolio.
1. Do more with less
Take time to really think about what to include in your portfolio. Don’t be drawn into adding everything you’ve ever designed. Be ruthless. Only choose what you consider to be your strongest designs. Pay particular attention to the work that you think shows your most distinctive and creative styles.
2. Keep it varied
You want to keep potential clients engaged when they look through your portfolio. Make your it interesting with varied examples of work. Keep your pages consistent and curated. Add your logo to each page to tie everything together.
3. Be current
Clients are looking for the new and different. Designs that reflect social, cultural and creative trends. Top tip – do not include work that is any older than 5 years unless you feel it demonstrates a skill or approach that none of your other work does BUT you don’t want it to look dated. Keep it fresh and remind yourself to keep updating the content.

Highlighting your design/thinking process can really enhance your portfolio. Where applicable include trend interpretation, sketches, doodles and notes. This demonstrates the full creative journey of your projects and passion for what you do.
- Tailor it
Depending on who you are presenting your portfolio to it’s always a great idea to make it easy to customise for each client pitch and make it relevant to their design specialism.
