Today we are delighted to share with you the success of Jo Elise an artist and surface pattern design based in beautiful Yorkshire.
What impact has the ABSPD course had on you?
When I discovered the ABSPD courses it was like everything suddenly fell into place. I had been searching for a way to use my art skills, which I could make into a career and ABSPD presented me with a world that I didn’t know existed before. It was perfect for me and it felt good to have found something that I could be really passionate about. I took module one at the same time as I started to learn the digital tools of the trade in 2013. It was the start of a total life and career change for me, and the beginning of a very exciting journey.
Since then I have studied ABSPD modules two and three as well as Make Art That Sells A & B and have pulled together a portfolio of designs, which includes everything from insects to ice creams. All of my designs are hand drawn and I think that you can probably see my ‘hand’ in them, but I am conscious of the need to play, have fun with my work and let my style develop naturally over time.
In 2015 I took the brave decision to leave my full time job and focus my attention on establishing Jo Elise Designs. I began by creating my own website, branding and launching my first range of stationery which includes notebooks, greeting cards and calendars.
My biggest achievement has been my recent collaboration with online retailer Direct Blinds. This is a massively exciting opportunity for me as a new designer and I am very grateful to Direct Blinds for seeing the potential in my work. It has been a huge confidence boost and I am so pleased that my pretty patterns will be hanging in people’s homes. This has always been my aspiration.
I am really excited about what the future holds for Jo Elise Designs, I currently have plans underway for the launch of a range of creative wellbeing products later in the year.
Jo Elise creates her elegant, pretty surface pattern designs from her home in Yorkshire, UK. Her designs are often delicate and inspired by nature, but occasionally they break free with a more playful and fun style.
Jo spent 12 years working in marketing, before she decided to follow her heart and turn her attentions to a career in surface pattern design. For the past year she has been working as a freelance designer and is enjoying experimenting with finding her style. She is also developing her own range of stationery and gift products.
