How to use the Text to Vector feature in Adobe Illustrator (beta). A quick and easy tutorial on how best to use this new feature for your design workflow.
INSTRUCTIONS:
SUBJECT:
This is for when you already have an illustrated scene or background but want to add extra matching vectors.
- Open your illustrated scene in Adobe Illustrator
- Go to Window > Properties
- With the Rectangle tool draw where you want to add your new vector
- Go to the Properties panel and select ‘Subject’ in the drop down menu
- Make sure ‘Match active artboard style’ is selected
- Type in your subject prompt and click Generate
- You will initially receive 3 options – you can click Generate again for more options
SCENE:
This for when you want to create a full new vector scene.
- Go to Window > Properties
- With the Rectangle tool draw where you want to add your vector scene
- Go to the Properties panel and select ‘Scene’ in the drop down menu
- Type in your scene prompt and click Generate
PATTERN:
This is for when you want to add vector patterns to specific parts of your illustration.
- Firstly you will need to specify your pattern’s colour palette – add your colours to the Swatches panel by selecting over your illustration, going to the drop down menu next to Swatches and choosing ‘Add selected colors’
- Go to Window > Properties
- Select ‘Pattern’ in the Properties panel drop down
- Go to the Color controls button and select how many colours you want in your pattern
- You can then add those specific colours from the Swatches panel
- Type in your prompt for the pattern and click Generate
