November 14, 2011 marked the start of a very special journey for Make it in Design. It was day one of the first ever surface pattern design e-course ‘Module 1: Designing your way’ from The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design.
In the last four years over 5,000 creatives from 62 countries have joined us for one of our acclaimed courses, producing over 100,000 gorgeous patterns and works of art between them during the course alone. WOW!
Thank you so much for being part of our lives over the last four years. We are delighted at all the success you are enjoying as a result of it; thriving as professional designers, winning design contests, securing licensing deals, finding your true creative identity and so much more.
So we thought we’d have some birthday fun and invite EVERYONE to design or create a number 4! This can be in any format of your choice so you could create your number 4 out of pasta, buttons even sweets – the possibilities are endless!
Alternatively we have two templates for you to download, so whether you want to adorn the number 4 with a pattern of your choice or construct a 3D number 4 and take a snap. Once you have your number 4 we would love you to share it with us and the rest of the world – see below for full details.

Share your designs with us on Twitter / Facebook / Instagram before 8pm (GMT) November 19, 2015 using the TWO hashtags #makeitindesign and #worldpatternday to be in with a chance of winning a free place on M1: Designing your way
THE FINE PRINT
By submitting a design you agree to the following terms and conditions:
– Designs not submitted in accordance with the guidelines above will be rejected
– If a winner has already taken M1: Designing your way they may retake that module. However, the prize is not transferable and no cash alternative is available.
– The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into
– By submitting your work you agree to be featured online or in print by Rachael Taylor, Do What You Love, Make it in Design, MOYO, Print & Pattern or any other third party chosen by Rachael Taylor and/or Beth Kempton in relation to this opportunity, at any time now or in the future. In such an instance no fees will be payable for the inclusion of your work in any promotional materials relating to the course
– There is no fee payable to enter
– You will retain all rights relating to your images

- Deadline for sharing your design: 8pm GMT on Thursday 19 November 2015
- Announcement of winners: Monday 23 November 2015
