CREATIVE TIP OF THE WEEK – How to opt out of Meta using your posts for AI

We recently learned that Meta is updating their privacy policy as they want to use public posts and photos to help train their new AI features. Here is how to opt out if you would prefer them not to use your content:

  1. Go to your Instagram profile and click on the menu in the top right.
  2. Click ‘settings and privacy’ (if you are not on a business account go straight to the next step).
  3. Scroll all the way to the bottom and click on ‘about’.
  4. Click on ‘privacy policy’.
  5. Click on ‘right to object’.
  6. Fill out the form.

For those outside of the UK/EU there is unfortunately not as restrictive laws around data protection. Here are some steps you can take but they are unfortunately not as decisive or clear on whether it will stop AI usage:

  1. Go to your Instagram profile and click on the menu in the top right.
  2. Scroll all the way to the bottom and click on ‘about’.
  3. Click on ‘privacy policy’.
  4. Click on the menu in the top right.
  5. Click on the drop down for ‘other policies and articles’.
  6. Click on ‘how meta uses information for generative AI models and features’.
  7. Scroll down until you see ‘learn more and submit requests here’ and click on this to fill out the form.
