For the second year in a row the Make it in Design team were thrilled to exhibit at New Designers (Part 1) at the Business Design Centre in London.
Labelled as ‘The UK’s most important exhibition for emerging design‘, New Designers is an annual event that delivers new generations of brilliant creative individuals. Emerging designers showcase their talent in the hope to be recruited, gain valuable exposure through the attending media, connect with other designers, experience exhibiting at a trade show and talking to potential clients and so much more.
Showcasing over 3,000 design graduates covering a breadth of design disciplines, including ceramics, crafts and furniture across two weeks with Part 1 28 June – 01 July and Part 2 05 – 08 July.
A visit to the show provides a unique opportunity to commission, recruit, be inspired and buy directly from the future of British design whilst supporting the pipeline of new talent into the UK’s creative industries. Part 1 includes textiles, jewellery, ceramics and contemporary crafts whilst Part 2 showcases furniture and product design, illustration and motion arts.
The show is split into two parts, each covering different design disciplines. Make It In Design were proud to exhibit during Part 1 of the show (June 28 – July 1, 2017) which focused on textiles and fashion, ceramics and glass, contemporary design crafts, costume design, jewellery and precious metalwork.
The Make it in Design were position on stand A6 which was next to the café. The stand provided the opportunity for Rachael and the team to say hello and meet and greet many of our existing students, alumni and lots of new faces. On display we had exciting opportunities, prizes, offers and a very small selection of graduate work which you can read about here.
THE DESIGN TRUST START UP DAY
Rachael was excited to join The Design Trust’s Start Up Day (Thursday June 29, 2017) – a full, information-packed speaker event for recent design and craft graduates.
Rachael presented “How to become a professional surface pattern design” to a packed out audience (thank you everyone who attended).
During the show we were also so excited to reveal Rachael’s latest fashionable creation – a custom-made dress featuring one of her signature surface patterns! Her gorgeous maxi-dress, tailored by a talented local in Liverpool and printed by the wonderful Fashion Formula, made a big impression on stand visitors & we were so pleased it turned out so well.
DAILY DOODLE COMPETITION
This year we were excited to host a daily doodle competition on our stand – open to all.
Each day of the show we featured a different doodle theme and invited visitors to do a quick doodle in response to the theme. Each day one winner from the daily theme was selected to receive a complimentary place on Summer School 2017 on a track of their choice.
