We are really pleased to showcase the beautiful work from our very talented Module 3 students of ‘The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design (the e-course) who took the course in November 2013. Here are some our fantastic students & the work they have created over the 5 weeks in class.
“I came into this course knowing that I wanted to pursue surface pattern design, but not knowing a thing about the business itself. After taking this course, I feel like I can jump right in and start my career! The most valuable part for me was the section on freelancing and working with clients. I can’t wait to put my new knowledge to use!” – Emily Emerson
“This year has been a year of tremendous change for me personally. I have undertaken all three modules but have been especially impressed with Module 3. It has provided me with a wealth of business knowledge and understanding. As a result my designing has become bolder and more confident. The live briefs have been a good challenge for me to work in a more professional way and have taken my ideas in a way I never thought possible. I am beginning to think that the dream I set out with is within my grasp thanks to the empowering materials provided within Module 3. They are things that I will return to time and again as my business grows and develops.” – Lindsay Buck (Slumbermonkey Designs)
“The part of the course that i have found has helped me the most if the confidence that it has given me to carry on and not to give up! Rachael is a really inspiration and the course has given me the confidence to believe i can do it as well as helping me be more professional.” – Ashley Le Quere
“The most powerful element of the course was the live brief. It challenges me to work with a specific theme and a different target market that I usually design for. It also helps me to structure my time to work with a short deadline. Thank you for the great opportunity.” – Laurence Lavallee – FLO Design
“Module 3 was full useful information and resources for the business side of surface pattern design. I loved the complete module. Three things that I loved the most was the brief submissions, the little black book of contacts and the technical workshops. Of the three, the brief submission was the most powerful element of the course for me. It pushed me out of my comfort zone to design from specific details and guidelines.” – Lisa Yvette Harbin
“For me, the most powerful element of the course has been the abundance of information given in each lesson – real life experience and advice that you can’t find written in a text book. Module 3 has helped me to further develop as a designer with the support & encouragement given in class and has pushed my thinking and freelance design aspirations beyond what I thought was possible! Thank you!” – Robyn Bockman
“This module has been my favourite so far. I found all of the insights in to the business side of design extremely useful, with in-depth interviews from studios and independent designers. I can’t wait to put all of this information in to practice.” – Flora Waycott
“I really enjoyed Module 3 – it is packed with practical information about the various possibilities to take my surface design business forward; I really enjoyed (and was challenged by!) the live briefs and have been enjoying delving into my 3 months’ subscription to Stylesight. I still have a lot of work to do in building my business up but, thanks to the course, now have a roadmap and clear goals to achieve it as well as the self belief that I CAN attract clients with my designs.” – Liz Plummer
“I was blown away by the amount of detailed inside information shared on this course. It has helped me build a clarified strategic on how to monetise my designs.” – Sara Castro Monteiro
