Rachael Taylor's cool snowflake design commission

Our co-founder Rachael Taylor has been revealed as one of 12 lucky artists to be commissioned to design a snowflake as part of Liverpool city’s popular Snowflake Trail in the UK.

Rachael found out at the end of October that she had been chosen and it has been a whirlwind of planning, painting, sanding and organising a very large amount of Adobe Illustrator vinyl files ever since. The sculptures are provided as white blank canvases for all of the artists to decorate and apply their artwork too whilst making them weatherproof ahead of their outdoor installation.

The event itself is organised by Open Culture who are a Community Interest Company with the mission to increase the profile of and engagement with arts and culture on Merseyside. This is their third year running the magical trail.

I feel so honoured to be part of such a diverse and talented group of artists and it has been a very enjoyable process whilst being challenging at the same time. I’m really keen to do a fantastic job and turn my concept into a festive reality, says Rachael.

My vision was to create a pattern that makes you feel uplifted, happy and festive, whilst reflecting the multi-cultural nature and vibrant city of Liverpool. This dynamic design incorporates a revelation of colour, a diverse range of varying scales to produce a visual snowy delight and multi-faceted piece.
