We are very excited to bring you a series of Surtex previews for the 2014 show taking place on May 18 – 20, 2014 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York. Surtex is the only show in North America solely devoted to selling and licensing original art and design for all types of products.
We are extremely proud of many of “The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design” e-course students and are pleased to be celebrating their success with them as they prepare for the show.
How are you preparing for the show?
As soon as I hit the registration button my brain went into full Surtex prep mode. This is my first show, but I’ve approached it like planning a wedding (it’s almost as emotional draining!). Creating a strong body of work was priority number one, as I am represented for the children’s market by Cinnamon Joe Studio, I needed to create a whole other set of art for Pomelo & Pomelo. Whew!
I’ve been balancing these last few weeks with creating new art, getting everything to come together, making sure my brand is cohesive and checking off deadlines. What I am most excited about is the chance to talk to people face to face. Emails always feel cold to me. A conversation is so valuable, new ideas can happen in an instant and a relationship is born. I look forward to meeting other exhibitors who I admire and have helped me prep for my first year. Can’t wait to see the next step of my creative journey!
