We are very excited to bring you a series of Surtex previews for the 2015 show taking place on May 17 – 19, 2015 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York. Surtex is the only show in North America solely devoted to selling and licensing original art and design for all types of products.

We are extremely proud of many of “The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design” e-course students and are pleased to be celebrating their success with them as they prepare for the show.

We are delighted to share with you previews of the talented designers showing at Surtex on the Make it in Design blog over the next couple of weeks – enjoy!

How are you preparing for the show?

I have been preparing for the past year, working very hard on creating a lot of new collections and trying some new techniques.  I’ve been trying to focus on creating artwork that will lend itself well to multiple categories.  My work is already licensed for fabric with Robert Kaufman, but I would love to get my work onto many more products.  Preparing for Surtex is a TON of work.  It’s so much more than just creating new work.  There’s a lot that goes into preparing your marketing pieces, planning your booth, getting the word out etc.  I haven’t slept much this past month, but hopefully my hard work will pay off.

Which ABSPD course have you taken?

I took the “Make It In Design Summer School – 2014” course which was great.  I was thrilled to see that one my prints made it to the cover of the Lookbook that was recently released. (the background print of the front cover)  WOOHOO!
Also, more recently I took the free “Manufacturing Your way” video series which was also very informative.
