Surtex 2015 Preview: Annie Chen

We are very excited to bring you a series of Surtex previews for the 2015 show taking place on May 17 – 19, 2015 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York. Surtex is the only show in North America solely devoted to selling and licensing original art and design for all types of products.

We are delighted to share with you previews of the talented designers showing at Surtex on the Make it in Design blog over the next couple of weeks – enjoy!

How are you preparing for the show?

It’s my first time participating the show so it’s a lot of work for me. I’ve been trying to create more collections of patterns for my portfolio since my previous focus has been on the in-house production. I have been doing a lot of marketing too, such as sending out press release and promote my work on social media. The show is coming up next week and I’m both nervous and excited!

About

My main focus was in graphic design before I started LEMONNI, but I have always been fond of pattern design, especially the work by Marimekko and Orla Kiely. I started to design my own patterns, but it wasn’t until 2013 when I decided to turn my pattern design into something tangible. So I established LEMONNI as a paper/textile line that features my pattern design. I started with something very simple, such as tea towels, notecards, and aprons, and sold them on Etsy. And then I participated in a few local craft shows the first year, and then two major shows last year. This year, I want to try licensing my artwork for more products, that’s why I signed up for Surtex.
