Surtex, the only show in North America solely devoted to selling and licensing original art and design for all types of products, is almost here! Each year we bring you a series of Surtex previews and we are extremely proud of many of “The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design” e-course students who have featured and continue to feature at the show.

I am a Sydney based freelance designer and have been working in the industry for a while. Last year I felt like it was time to branch out and create my own identity and signature style so i signed up to module 2 of ABSPD course. From there I went on to complete Module 3 and The Ultimate portfolio builder and a whole new world opened up to me
I got so many opportunities and entered a few designs competitions after taking ABSPD courses. I was one of the top 8 of Spoonflower’s fabric 8 contest 2015 , Top ten of Spoonflower’s Love is in the air contest and the winner of Bonnie Christine’s Pattern Design workshop.
In a year’s time I found myself ready to exhibit at Surtex with Nerida Hansen print and textiles, which I never thought about doing prior to taking these courses. The amount of confidence and valuable information I have received with ABSPD courses is just incredible.
As much as it is exciting to be exhibiting, I am very nervous as well to exhibit at such a major platform. I wish all the best to all the newbies and the pros. Hope it brings a lot of success to everyone.
