The Ultimate Portfolio Builder in association with Printsource New York officially started on Monday and we’re all getting to know each other in our private Facebook community.
We have received a couple of questions about this module recently so we thought we’d post our answers to them here in case you were wondering the same thing!
1) Why are there a limited number of places on this course?
Answer: We offer a rare opportunity for you to get your work individually reviewed by Make it in Design co-founder and course leader Rachael Taylor or by our design experts Khristian A. Howell or Janine Burrows. They take great care to provide detailed feedback on your designs to help you build your portfolio in a structured way, with the support and guidance to boost your confidence and make you raring to go! This takes a huge amount of time and energy, so we have to limit the number of places on the course.
In addition we offer a number of live briefs in the course from real companies, so limiting the number of students gives you even more opportunity to get noticed.
The individual review process has been so confidence boosting and helpful in knowing what to develop from here about our own work. I don’t feel like I’m chasing a ridiculous dream anymore. I feel I got the validation I needed to keep working hard and chase down my dreams with gusto

2) Who are the guest designers and what do the technical Masterclasses cover?
Answer: Over the five-week class, we introduce a number of Masterclasses from top designers. Each one shares their videos demonstrating step-by-step workflows to help you master the particular technique they share.
- You’ll be introduced to Allison Cole, who’s well known for her character design and charming illustration
- You will also meet Faye Brown, a UK based designer with a passion for typography
- Our ‘technical wizard’ Adrian O’Meara will introduce you to manipulation of mixed media collage and photography, and deliver Masterclasses on mock-ups.
- You’ll also learn from Jessica Hogarth who’ll teach you all about repeats.
