Did you know that each month in The Make it in Design Live Hub our students get the chance to have their design portfolio work reviewed by experts? Today, with kind permission from some of our lovely members, we share a small clip from their feedback sessions.
The Live Hub runs in a quarterly content format and each quarter we access a macro trend theme with three design trends stemming from it. Each quarter our members have access to pre-recorded video and live and interactive work feedback streams with the Make it in Design team and guest experts.

“I have been a member of the Live Hub since last fall in 2022 when I signed up for the big ‘Designer in a Year’ bundle. The quarterly themes were great to build my portfolio. I loved it so much that I tried to work on as many assignments I could since then.
It’s also very helpful to watch your reviews of other designers work. Your insights and constructive feedback help me to improve both my design thinking and design process.After a feedback session, I always came back and tried to make adjustments in my designs, so they look more cohesive in colours, scale and the overall movement.
In the following round, I always try to work on something new I have learned in your feedback session: the moodboard creation, finding keywords, the story telling, using different techniques, mock-ups… it’s a process.
About me, I am more an introvert person and normally don’t share a lot of my work. But the Live Hub has changed a lot: I started to show my work online for feedback. The community is lovely and helps to connect with fellow designers. I have drawn since then daily, created more than 100 patterns. Slowly, I get the feeling of finding my style, whatI like and don’t like to draw.
In the Live Hub, I started to learn thinking and working in little collections and a better use of mock-ups”.
“I first joined Make it In Design’s Live hub in March 2021 and haven’t looked back since. This membership has been so rewarding and has a brilliant supportive community onFaceBook too. It’s like being with a creative family, where ideas and technical problems are tackled with great outcomes.
I have submitted my work through the various courses that MiiD offers – my most recent one being the Mermaidcore Trend Brief. I do not normally tackle this kind of theme(Fantasy) but I’m glad I did. I received great feedback on my hero design with changes suggested that enhanced my overall design. It was a real confidence booster to receive feedback on my collection as a whole too – the overall impression of my collection. Helped me confirm I’m on the right track with my presentation of designs for my portfolio.
All ideas and suggestions come with great care and sensitivity to how hard one works on a collection. I learn so much from comments made on fellow designers work too, so many great tip/suggestions are always given.
The inspiration just keeps coming … with trend briefs and suggested creative challenges to add to ones portfolio too!

“I love the Make It In Design Live Hub. I have been a member since February 2022 and it has really challenged me to become a better designer. The recent Mermaidcore trend brief is a great example of this. It really took me out of my comfort zone and pushed me to approach the brief in a new way. The Live Hub members gave me great support when I showed my initial work in the facebook group, then I was lucky enough to have my work reviewed in the feedback session by Vic and Kelly of Make It In Design. I now have the confidence to approach more briefs of that style and know what to do with that tricky supporting design which didn’t quite look right.
