Did you know that each month in The Make it in Design Live Hub our students get the chance to have their design portfolio work reviewed by experts? Today, with kind permission from some of our lovely members, we share a small clip from their feedback sessions.
The Live Hub runs in a quarterly content format and each quarter we access a macro trend theme with three design trends stemming from it. Each quarter our members have access to pre-recorded video and live and interactive work feedback streams with the Make it in Design team and guest experts.

“I have been a member of the Live Hub since October (although I did once win a free month which lured me in). This was the first time submitting my work for review in The Live Hub although I have previously submitted work for review in The Master Series which Jess Williams reviewed (Ravishing Risoberries for the Trend brief). My main takeaway was that it’s perfectly acceptable to leave your comfort zone as it proves that you are capable of creating designs you usually wouldn’t have attempted. I’d never created geometric designs and also never designed for the more masculine market. The feedback given showed that I was capable of doing both where previously I’d have shied away from a subject like this thinking it wasn’t really my thing. I’d like to create more designs like this in the future to build up a more comprehensive portfolio so I can target more markets”.
“I’ve been a member of the Live hub for almost a year having joined at the end of April 2023.
I have submitted work for several of the design briefs over that time and Quiet Luxury was the first for me to gain specific feedback on. The feedback sessions are always so valuable even if your own work isn’t covered as there are such great takeaways and suggestions that we can then translate into our own work. The diverse results we all have amaze me yet we are all working to the same brief, everyone is encouraged to find their own style.
To received feedback on my own project for this was so helpful and a huge boost to my confidence, especially to feel I am heading in the right direction and with the suggestions of how to expand my range of designs even further. It was a project I really enjoyed doing and a product area that I hadn’t ever considered previously. Working with different product areas broadens our scope and makes us venture out of our usual comfort zones as well as finding new mockups and ways to present out work. I love the structure of the Live Hub with the introductory videos on trends and the detailed design briefs, they provide so many opportunities to grown our portfolios and develop our skills. It’s a very supportive environment to be in, both with the MIID team and our peers”.
“I’ve been a member of the live hub now for 3 years. It’s a fantastic wealth of resources, I love the variety of all the different topics, trends and guest tutors which you have access to. It really helps to grow your portfolio and you are constantly learning new things all the time – I really look forward to Mondays when new content is dropped! I find the reviews an invaluable part of the Live Hub, I have had my work reviewed in the past. As working by myself, I find it can be hard to creatively challenge my own work. The tutors, or Vic and Kelly are so supportive, the constructive feedback sessions are amazing. Having another perspective and ideas, are so helpful in continually developing my work, plus they are areal confidence booster”.
