Live Hub Portfolio Reviews

Each quarter in The Live Hub our members have access to pre-recorded or live portfolio feedback with our team and guest experts! Today, with kind permission from a small selection of our members, we share some small clips from one of the recent feedback sessions.

“Lake Shore Pattern Collection. I designed this pattern collection for a brief from Make it in Design on their fabulous live hub membership. We had to design a colour palette for a paint range then design some repeat patterns for the paint tin decoration. I wrote a paragraph about a walk I often do at a nearby lake. From that I collected some imagery and created a moodboard. This was the basis of my colour palette and patterns. I’m hoping to add more patterns to this collection. It was such a lovely task and especially coming up with the paint names for each colour.”

“My main takeaway was that it’s perfectly acceptable to leave your comfort zone as it proves that you are capable of creating designs you usually wouldn’t have attempted. I’d never created geometric designs and also never designed for the more masculine market.
The feedback given showed that I was capable of doing both where previously I’d have shied away from a subject like this thinking it wasn’t really my thing. I’d like to create more designs like this in the future to build up a more comprehensive portfolio so I can target more markets”.

“Having been a member of The Live hub for just over 2 years now, this is a brilliant creative space with a very supportive community. The Make it in Design team put so much work into creating exciting briefs which are always relevant to what is going on in the industry right now. Getting work reviewed by Industry professionals is bar far the biggest bonus, with monthly constructive feedback and actionable next steps for designs from Vic and Kelly. I have ave been so lucky to have work reviewed a few times now. It has been invaluable to get other designers’ perspectives and views on the work. The main takeaways from the quiet luxury brief have been better presentation techniques, branding, ideas for successful pitching and licensing.”
