We are very excited to bring you a series of Surtex previews for the 2014 show taking place on May 18 – 20, 2014 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York. Surtex is the only show in North America solely devoted to selling and licensing original art and design for all types of products.
We are extremely proud of many of “The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design” e-course students and are pleased to be celebrating their success with them as they prepare for the show.
How are you preparing for the show?
This is my first year showing at Surtex and I couldn’t be more excited! As the date grows closer it’s a jumbled mix of anticipation, nerves and exhilaration. Basically, it’s going to be all Surtex prep, and the time from now until the show!
I’ve always loved surface design, and I walked the Surtex 2 years ago to see what it was all about. Immediately I knew it was something that I needed to do! After walking the show I was looking for ways to get me ready, build my portfolio, etc and that’s how I found ABSPD. I took Modules 2 & 3, and the courses, along with the community of other designers, really gave me the confidence to jump in and show at Surtex much sooner than I thought I would!

About
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been doing something creative. I sewed fabric scraps into doll clothes, chopped fast food sandwich wrappers up into elaborate collages, and DIY’ed my college dorm room before anyone knew what that meant.
As an adult, that creative curiosity translated into a career in design, where, for over a decade, I have crafted retail store campaigns and graphics, gift card designs, catalogs, packaging designs and creative strategies for some of the biggest retail and consumer packaging goods companies in the United States.
You could say I’m equal parts designer, trend spotter, creative director and creative strategist- and I love being able to wear all four hats while developing my prints, patterns and illustrations.
