Our Summer Design School is back with a BANG this July – giving all participants the experience of working to future Spring/Summer trend briefs, building up that all important portfolio and connecting with other designers from all around the world.
As a surface designer, trends can have great relevance and importance for you when designing. It’s easy to get caught up in your own creative bubble, especially if you work from home, and although this can be beneficial when you’re working on fresh ideas you must remember not to cut yourself off from the rest of the world. After all you and your designs are part of something much bigger – a big wide world where industry trends come and go. In order to keep up, or better still, stay ahead of the game, you must be willing to learn, evolve, adapt, develop and grow.
Being aware of trends can be especially useful when you are working from a design brief or designing a specific collection.
Last year Summer Design School participants dived into these trends: Boardwalk, Botanist, Eclectic Heirloom, Mineral, Twisted and Joyful Blooms. There was eye candy a plenty with exotic florals flanked by intricately illustrated bugs – you need to check it out NOW!
