CREATIVE TIP OF THE WEEK – 5 Adobe Illustrator tips to improve your workflow

Today we’re sharing 5 Adobe Illustrator tips to improve your workflow. Follow this easy tutorial for time saving ways to edit your motifs in Adobe Illustrator.

 

 

ALIGN TOOL INSTRUCTIONS

  • Go to Window > Align to open the Align tool palette
  • Select your motifs and click on the distribute spacing buttons
  • Now vertically or horizontally align your motifs to have them perfectly align

SCALE TOOL INSTRUCTIONS

  • Click on the Direct Selection tool in your toolbar
  • Hold down shift and click the anchor points you want to scale equally
  • Click on the Shape Builder tool in your toolbar
  • Click and drag your anchor points to scale them proportionally

RANDOM TOOL INSTRUCTIONS

  • Select your motifs (make sure they are not grouped)
  • Go to Object > Transform > Transform Each
  • Choose the angle you want to rotate your motifs
  • Tick random in the options and click okay to randomise your shapes

DIRECT SELECTION TOOL

  • Click on the Direct Selection tool in your toolbar
  • Look for the inner circle anchor points within your shapes and follow the directions in the video
  • For the second row of shapes you will need to hold shift while selecting multiple anchor points

SHAPE BUILDER TOOL

  • Create the your motif
  • Select over the shapes and select the Shape Builder tool in your toolbar
  • Now drag over the shapes that you want to combine into one

TIPS

  • There are many more uses for each of these tools. We encourage you to experiment and see what else you can make!
