CREATIVE TIP OF THE WEEK: How to create a quick mock up in Adobe Photoshop

How to create a mock up in seconds in Adobe Photoshop. A super quick and easy tutorial on the Vanishing Point method of creating a patterned mock up in Photoshop.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Open your mock up image in Photoshop
  2. Open your pattern file and click CMD + A to select all and CMD + C to copy your pattern
  3. Go back to your mock up image and create a new layer in the layers panel
  4. Now to go to Filter > Vanishing Point
  5. Using the ‘create new plane tool’ draw anchor points where you want to fill with your pattern
  6. Hold down CMD on the side anchor point to drag the area down any sides
  7. Now click CMD + V to paste in your pattern file
  8. Click CMD + T to transform it and drag it to the area of the mock up you want to fill – it will auto fill the area
  9. Drag the pattern around until you are happy with the position and click OK
  10. No go to your layers panel and in the drop down (default normal) select multiply to make it look more realistic
  11. Follow the same process for any other areas you want to fill

TIPS:

  • You might need to resize your pattern after pasting in to get it to fit the mock up
  • Make sure your anchor points are in the correct position or you could leave gaps
  • You can also experiment with blending options in the layers panel to make the pattern blend even more with the mock up
