CREATIVE TIP OF THE WEEK: AI Mock-up tool in Adobe Illustrator (Beta)

Did you know Adobe Illustrator is testing out a new mock-up tool? Follow our tutorial for how to test it out for yourself.

Before following the tutorial you will need to have downloaded the beta version of Illustrator. To do this go to your Creative Cloud app and go to Beta Apps in the left hand menu. Download the Illustrator Beta from there. This will not replace the version of Illustrator you currently have but will open a new version.

UPDATE: This tool is now available in the all access version of Adobe Illustrator. Simply go to Object > Mock-up (Beta) > Make and download the mock-up assets.

  1. Open your mock up image in Adobe Illustrator.
  2. Drag in your logo and position it to where you want it placed on the image.
  3. Select both the image and the logo and go to Object> Mock-up> Make in the top menu.
  4. You can now drag your logo around the file and position it in the best place.
  5. You can use the Appearance tools such as multiply to help blend the logo better with your image.

UPDATE: You can now also use the mock-up feature to directly mock-up your motifs or patterns on Adobe Stock images.

TIPS:

  • This process currently seems to work best when the product is one colour or there is a clear space for a logo such as a label. We tried with wooden beauty packaging for example and it was not recognised (as it is still in beta and being worked on).
  • It also currently works the best with bolder logos.
  • There currently doesn’t seem to be a way to proportionally resize the logo after creating the mock-up.

Have fun experimenting! We’d love to see what you create. Tag @makeitindesign on all socials.
