CREATIVE TIP OF THE WEEK – Path effects in Adobe Illustrator

How to create path effects in Adobe Illustrator. A quick and easy tutorial on how to make your lines and strokes more fun and dynamic.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

ROUGHEN

  1. Go to Effect > Distort and Transform > Roughen
  2. Experiment with the size and detail sliders to get the effect that you want.

TWIST

  1. Go to Effect > Distort and Transform > Twist
  2. Add or subtract degrees to get the effect that you want.

ZIG-ZAG (CORNER)

  1. Go to Effect > Distort and Transform > Zig-Zag
  2. Make sure corner is selected and experiment with the size and ridges to get the effect you want.

ZIG-ZAG (SMOOTH)

  1. As above but make sure smooth is selected.

SCRIBBLE

  1. Go to Effect > Stylise > Scribble
  2. Experiment with the sliders to get the kind of scribble effect that you want.

WARP (ARC)

  1. Go to Effect > Warp > Arc
  2. Move the bend slider to get the type of arc that you want.

TIPS:

  • Many of these effects can also be applied to shapes
  • Experimenting with stroke weight or adding a gradient could make this even more dynamic
  • You could create some simple fun patterns with these effects
