Top 5 Essentials to Protect your intellectual property and designs online:

  1. Add your logo, website or a watermark to your designs
  2. Sign and date your original artwork
  3. Add copyright metadata to your designs – this can be done in Adobe programmes by going to File> File Info. Here is a quick tutorial.
  4. Register with ACID and upload your files to their IP databank. This can include scanned drawings, paintings, design files and even contracts so that there is a file trail and evidence if a copyright issue should arise.
  5. Display the ACID logo on your website and email signature, or include a sentence that you will take copyright infringement very seriously.
