We are thrilled to announce that WINTER SCHOOL 2019 has launched and our first trend briefs are live! This year our insightful future trends come from the amazing Porter & Brawn trend consultants and they are absolutely fantastic.
Participants from all over the globe are diving into our trend briefs and the atmosphere in our community is wonderful! Take a peek below for everything you need to know about Winter School 2019 and how you can take part.
What are the 2019 trends?
Our very first set of trend briefs are now live in class (set two to follow after we reach week 3). Each track will offer TWO trend briefs and TWO creative exercises each (plus so much more, take a peek below)! What does a full brief include?
Here’s a peek at the inside of a Winter School brief from 2018 – these briefs include TONS of visual inspiration and creative prompts to help you really dive into the trends and can be up to 10 pages long. We don’t leave you hanging so don’t worry! Complete beginners through to advanced designers take part – it’s all about how you respond to the trend. All briefs come in a beautiful PDF format and are downloadable, printable, and saveable for later use!
Here’s what you get:
Two creative briefs (per track) inspired by real A/W 19/20 trends from Porter & Brawn to help you generate new sketches and simple patterns (one brief in weeks 1 & 3)
Two fun beginner design exercises (per track) to get you out and about and having fun (one exercise in weeks 2 & 4)
A chance to see your work come alive on giftwrap and fabric thanks to Fashion Formula who will select 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners per track (see below for more details)
Two impressive downloadable high resolution papers/textured backgrounds to use in your projects (per track)

This gorgeous pattern by Winter Schooler Ruth Burrows won first place with Fashion Formula (in 2018) who offer fabric prizes each year! She used that fabric to reupholster this stunning chair!
How it works:
(1) On Monday January 14, 2019 you will be sent your first creative brief
– If you want to be included in our online public gallery you will need to submit your work by Sunday February 17, 2019
– The gallery will go live on Monday February 18, 2019 and we will share it widely on social media.
(2) On Monday January 21, 2019 you will be sent your first fun challenge
– Share your pictures anytime before Sunday January 27, 2019 in the private Winter School Facebook group. Spot prizes will be awarded!
(3) On Monday January 28, 2019 you will be sent your second creative brief
– If you want to be included in our online public gallery you will need to submit your work by Sunday February 17, 2019
– The gallery will go live on Monday February 18, 2019 and we will share it widely on social media.
(4) On Monday February 04, 2019 you will be sent your second fun challenge
– Share your pictures anytime before Sunday February 10, 2019 in the private Winter School Facebook group. Spot prizes will be awarded!
(5) On Friday February 22, 2019 we will publish a round up on the Make it in Design BLOG with links to all the galleries and an announcement of all of the prize winners.
– PLUS we will create a special Winter School feature in a future issue of MOYO Magazine!
(6) On Friday March 1, 2019 all three Winter School classrooms will close.
