Award-winning Miguel Monkc’s top tips for a rewarding creative career

Looking for some words of wisdom to get you back on track? We recently caught up with New York Times Illustrator and award-winning Graphic Designer Miguel Monkc who had some great advice for our community.

  • When working with an agent – do your research first and ask questions. It’s really important to find the best fit for you and your work. And always read any contracts and/or terms and conditions carefully before you sign anything!
  • If you aren’t currently getting any commissions/briefs don’t let it stop you working. Do something for yourself and your own creativity, have fun with it and enjoy what you are doing.
  • Don’t be afraid to use colour. This goes for using a limited colour palette but also an explosion of colour – you’ll be amazed at the results and it’s so much fun too!
  • If you’re not having fun, stop doing what you’re doing. We only have one life and for creative minds it’s so much better when you’re having fun.
  • Enjoy the creative process – from your initial ideas, to working through the night, to getting that final end result that you’ll love, take the time to enjoy step.
