Pattern Class Showcase part 1 – Module 1 {Aug 2013 class)

We are really pleased to showcase the beautiful work from our very talented Module 1 students of ‘The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design (the e-course) who took the course in August 2013. Here are some our fantastic students & the work they have created over the 5 weeks in class.

“This course transformed the way I was working as it allowed me to understand how to manipulate drawn elements in illustrator. It has also helped me enormously on honing in on my own style.” – Melissa Haworth

Tasha-Goddard---Bright-Butterflies

“If I had to pick the most powerful thing I took away from the course, it would be the ability to use my own simple mark-making to add texture and interest to designs, where before I relied on built-in textures and brushes. I believe this has added a completely new level to my designs.” – Tasha Goddard

NatalieYates-Elemental

“The most powerful element of the course was understanding the relationships between converting free hand drawing to repeat designs through computer based software. I gained an amazing insight into then layering my designs and drawing out the dimension that was lacking in my work.” – Natalie Yates (Natalie Yates Textiles & Fabric)
Melanie Pennell_Blue_Sunshower

“The best part about module one for me was getting back to basics and drawing again. Something which I did not get to do much of as a graphic designer.” – Name: Melanie Pennell

Lisa Wan - New Art Deco

“Module 1 of ABSPD has given me the drive, community and confidence to discover and embrace a new passion for design, all the things I love and above all, a new sense of self worth.” – Lisa Wan

“I am a complete beginner as this is my first ever creative course that I have done. This is a wonderful e- course has truly changed me and gave me the confidence…I can design . I loved the course….exercises, bonus technical workshop, Rachael ‘s continuous support and inspirational words and specially the The FB group. This course has everything it promised and so addictive that sometimes I don’t feel to do anything else.” – Habiba Rahman

CharlotteBurr-TurkishJewelT

“Module One has really helped me to focus on the importance of motif design; creating authentic, textured, and interesting motif designs and shapes. I hope this, along with my love of colour palette exploration, will define my style as surface pattern designer and artist.” – Charlotte Burr

Niccy Iseman - Floral Fauve Collection

“This module has helped me grow so much as designer – I can see the difference already! I have thoroughly enjoyed the online community provided and the exercises Rachel gives every day have made my work look more professional. I feel more on track with my career as a designer and have booked onto model 2 and 3 as I know they will be worth it!” – Niccy Iseman

Diane_Hunt_PlaidFloral_V2

“As a fine artist looking to expand into surface pattern design, the most powerful element of the course is knowing that I can incorporate my hand drawn or painted elements into my designs. Rachael shared with us the how-to instructions to do just that and so much more allowing me to come away from the course with the knowledge of how to create my own designs.
Looking forward to Modules 2 & 3.” – Diane Hunt

Melinda Hopkirk - Black Orchid

“The most powerful aspect of the course for me is that I finally recognise that I do have my own unique style and that it is OK not to be the same as everyone else. I no longer feel disappointed that my work doesn’t seem to fit with what everyone else is doing and have stopped forcing myself to make work that doesn’t feel authentic to me. I am now able to apply the things I have learnt in my own way and feel hopeful that I will continue to develop as a designer and find a market for my work. ” –  Melinda Hopkirk

Alison-Benyon---The-Tranquil-Sea

“The main thing I’ve loved about this course is that I’ve started designing again and stopped just thinking about the end product. I have gone back to the basics: thinking about colour, form and gathering inspiration to create the very best art that’s inside me. ” – Alison Benyon
