We are very excited to bring you a series of Surtex previews for the 2014 show taking place on May 18 – 20, 2014 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York. Surtex is the only show in North America solely devoted to selling and licensing original art and design for all types of products.

We are extremely proud of many of “The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design” e-course students and are pleased to be celebrating their success with them as they prepare for the show.

How are you preparing for the show?

I am preparing for this year’s Surtex by taking ABSPD module 4!
I took ABSPD Modules 1-3 in 2011 to prep and learn everything I could about licensing- it was amazing and I learned so much. I showed at Surtex for the first time in 2012. Right after my first show I had the incredible opportunity to co-design the Christmas decor for the White House in 2012 and 2013. I feel like a newbie coming back but I am excited to return to Surtex this year with a whole new collection of playful and colorful images. I would love be to get a line of children’s products, fabric or wall art.
Prior to my first Surtex, I had a wholesale line of stationery for 12 years. I sold to over 1000 retail outlets at the height of business and loved creating new products seasonally for National Stationery Show and NY Gift. I also create large scale paper installations- last year I had the opportunity to create paper pieces for the White House and US Open (Tennis) in NY. I really love how licensing gives me the chance to create art that combines those backgrounds and to be constantly creative and challenged.
