We are very excited to bring you a series of Surtex previews for the 2015 show taking place on May 17 – 19, 2015 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York. Surtex is the only show in North America solely devoted to selling and licensing original art and design for all types of products.

We are extremely proud of many of “The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design” e-course students and are pleased to be celebrating their success with them as they prepare for the show.

We are delighted to share with you previews of the talented designers showing at Surtex on the Make it in Design blog – enjoy!

How are you preparing for the show?

I am happy to be represented by my wonderful agency Wundergarden. Which is why I am relieved that I don’t have to plan a whole booth.
So I prepared my portfolio book. Especially the last two-three month. Usually at night, until 12 (hoping that the kids will sleep through the night ^^). That was pretty exhausting, but I am truly happy how the book turned out.
I also updated my business cards and got them printed at moo. Each card has a different pattern/ illustration on one side. Like this I have a tiny portfolio with me 24/7.

Which ABSPD course have you taken?

I am currently taking Mod 3 (which I love) and graduated Mod 2 (which was overwhelming – I had no idea the speed would be THAT fast *haha*. I took the MATS bootcamp at the same time + freelance work + two toddlers).

About

I am an illustrator/ designer since I graduated in 2006 and love love love my job. My illustrations have been published in several children’s books, posters, puzzles, board games, magazines… and step by step I am getting more into Licensing. I was lucky to have my first fabric collection “Cosmic Party” got licensed by the german manufacturer Swafing  this year. I love seeing what all the creative followers sew with it. Feels like Christmas for a child.
I also recently licensed some map illustrations for shoppers which I am quiet excited about. One of the Cities is New York and I will definitely take that one with me :)
